My name is Phil Parry, and I’m a design draftsman. I engineered and built Big Yella in my home garage using basic tools, creativity, and an old VW Beetle engine I couldn’t bear to scrap. If I could do it, so can you.
After replacing the engine in my daughter’s 1965 VW Beetle and left with the old 1200cc engine sitting in my garage and bleeding oil over the floor, I found myself pondering its fate. I could not bring myself to scrap it—not this masterpiece of mechanical simplicity, the brainchild of Ferdinand Porsche.
Suddenly it dawned on me, “I’ll build a VW trike.” ....and so the journey began.
Using basic tools, hands-on creativity, and practical experience, I used that old Beetle engine to create a head-turning VW trike—all within my small home garage. If I could do it, so can you.
